“René Dubos is an author of a popular maxim “Think Globally, Act Locally” that refers to the argument that global environmental problems can turn into action only by considering ecological, economic, and cultural differences of our local surroundings. This motto appeared for the first time in 1978, six years after Dubos served as advisor to the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. In 1979, Dubos suggested that ecological consciousness should begin at home. He urged creation of a World Order in which “natural and social units maintain or recapture their identity, yet interplay with each other through a rich system of communications”. In the 1980s, Dubos held to his thoughts on acting locally, and felt that issues involving the environment must be dealt with in their “unique physical, climatic, and cultural contexts.” Dubos’ approach to building a resilient and constructive relationship between people and the Earth continues to resonate”—
“'Local character' is thus no mere accidental old-world quaintness, as its mimics think and say. It is attained only in course of adequate grasp and treatment of the whole environment, and in active sympathy with the essential and characteristic life of the place concerned.”—
Sir Patrick GeddesFRSE (2 October 1854 – 17 April 1932) was a Scottish biologist, sociologist, geographer, philanthropist and pioneering town planner. He is known for his innovative thinking in the fields of urban planning and sociology.
# 439....The Astro*Carto*Graphy of ....'Think Globally, act Locally'
America’s July 4, 4:47 p.m., 1776, horoscope converted to an Astro*Carto*Graphy (R)A*C*G Map marks certain places around the Earth, which are areas of concern for Americans today.
Venus and Jupiter belong to a very important pattern in the American horoscope. Because the supremely important U.S. horoscope ASCENDANT is 7 Sagittarius 31’, it is ruled by Jupiter. Next, in importance, Jupiter is in Cancer, whereas the U.S. Sun is located at 13 cancer 18’; this is a close astrological relationship. Jupiter’s placement in Cancer connects him with all other symbols (Venus, Sun, and retrograde Mercury) placed in the Cancer sign. As a unit the quartet is called a ‘stellium’ and acts as one, like a four-legged sack race. The Sun (life-force and creative urges) must consider rationally (Mercury), what is valued (Venus), and how the journey (Jupiter) to achieve it (Venus again) can be secured. Listen to the current Presidential Election frames and you will hear the argument loud and clear. What does the average American want? How should they be educated to get what they want? And why should American’s believe (American Dream) it’s possible to achieve goals if they work for them.
Additionally, Venus and Jupiter are traditionally valued as the astrological benefics; they are generally considered to bring material and spiritual growth and abundance; never mind the excesses. Again, this is what these planets mean generally! Venus rules our possessions, while Jupiter corresponds with what our educated philosophies cause us to believe. Mundanely, for a nation, Venus and Jupiter represent what the people are educated to believe and value. Geographically for the U.S., these planet symbols mark very specific valuable areas of the Earth. One of these places, long considered valuable, is Bristol Bay, Alaska.
In today’s, July 25, 2012 sky, transiting Pluto is retrograde at 7 Capricorn 37’, waxing towards opposing America’s Venus (3 Cancer 05’) and Jupiter (5 Cancer 55’) positions. his Y-Shaped Pattern is called a YOD, or 'Hand of God', or 'Finger of God', and where it grounds (in the environments of Alaska) it plays out; ‘As Above, So Below!’. This Pluto is the FOOT part of a transiting Y-Shaped pattern that has been snapping in and out of a state of perfection since July 3, 2012; the degrees around 7 Cancer are considered the YOD’s 'Activation Point'. In transiting sky today, transiting Jupiter is at 9 Gemini 11’, while Mercury is retrograde at 8 Leo 16’, constituting the two HANDS of the YOD. The U.S. Venus/Jupiter placements are midway between these two positions, again the ‘Activation Point’ - ‘Trigger’ if you like. With the U.S. Cancer planets on the MIDHEAVEN Angle, the transiting YOD’s Pluto FOOT is pointing into the ground, into Alaska’s physical environments, where the YOD’s lessons of 'Adjustment', 'Transition', and 'Re-Orientation' are being played out.
The very words used to describe the struggle occurring over whether to mine copper, Molybdenum, and gold in the Bristol Bay vicinity of the Iliamna Volcano show it to be an epic battle, whose result will long remain important in the ‘schedule of growth’ for this developing nation. The result will set the compass direction in which the values and philosophy (Venus & Jupiter) of the nation journey, and be symbolized by the copper and gold-baring possessions (Venus) in the pockets of every single American.
Part of Adam Smith three-legged stood in his "Wealth of Nations", was the "pursuit of self interest"; we hear a great deal about it in our political discourse today, from the Romney camp. Americans have fought this battle of 'do the right thing' over 'self-interest' before and stood tall. They did it back in the early 1990s during the U.S. Divestment Movement against South African’s Apartheid Regime, which was then propped up by massive amounts of foreign exchange earned from her Chromium, Gold, Platinum, and other ‘Strategic Mineral’ mines. With her moral stance, Apartheid fell and Americans reasserted their belief and reputation for having a solid visionary moral standing, laid out in their founding documents.
On the Earth of today, humans have been conditioned to believe that Earth’s resources exist solely for human benefit. This entry begins a series of blog entries setting out “Considerations Before Judgement” reviewing events now occurring under the U.S. Venus/Jupiter MIDHEAVEN lines (and the Cancer quartet in general) through Bristol Bay, Alaska. Astro*Carto*Graphy (R) A*C*G Maps of these lines will appear on the blog pages that follow.
Astrology would be an excellent example of manifest synchroncity if it has at its disposal thoroughly tested findings. But at least there are some facts thoroughly tested and back up by a wealth of statistics which make the astrological problem seem worthy of philosophical investigation. (Psychology has no difficulty in recognizing this, since astrology represents the summation of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity.)
The fact that it is possible to reconstruct in adequate fashion a person’s character from the data of his nativity shows the relative validity of astrology…
In so far as there are any really correct astrological diagnoses, they are not due to the effects of the constellations but to our hypothetical time-qualities. In other words, whatever is born or done in this moment of time has the quality of this moment of time.
